Yoga

Rāma has been practising yoga for over 25 years and teaching for over 15. He completed his teacher training while resident at Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales, one of the few authentic ashrams (yoga refuges) in the UK. As well as living, studying and working under the guidance of his teacher at Mandala for almost 4 years, Rāma has also spent long periods of time training and imbibing ashram life in various locations and ashrams around India.

Rāma teaches regular hatha yoga classes at the hall and makes the classes as inclusive and accessible as possible for all walks of life and abilities. Classes generally follow the following format with some variation from time to time:

• Settling of body and mind in preparation for the class to follow
• Limbering exercises to warm up joints and muscles and mobilise the spine in preparation for posture work
• Asana… (yoga postures) both static and dynamic ..mostly co-ordinated with the breath
• Pranayama… (yogic breathing exercises)
• Dharana… (meditative / concentration practices)
• Relaxation… (guided deep relaxation)

All these different elements of the ‘yoga jigsaw’ can aid in providing the student with a well-rounded and wholesome class. Benefits of the weekly practice can include (but are not limited to) improvements to one’s physical, mental and emotional health and an all round deepening of ones sense of self.

Rāma brings a warmth and depth to his classes and continues to encourage students and practitioners to tread the yogic path with his enthusiasm and understanding, knowing that yoga holds immense potential to heal and balance the whole human system.

All students are required to bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable loose non-restrictive clothing. A yoga block / cushion can be useful, particularly for sitting practices as well as a light cover or shawl to help keep yourself comfortable during the guided relaxation. Please refrain from eating at least 2 hours before the class.
